A TOWEL is the latest piece of evidence found in the ongoing investigation into a baby's mysterious death in north Queensland.
The pink and blue floral towel has been discovered on a property close to where the infant's body was found on Sunday morning in Charters Towers.
SES personnel are believed to have found the towel as they carried out searches on nearby properties.
Police have appealed to anyone in the public who recognizes the towel to come forward.
Earlier this week they also released an image of a skirt which is similar to one found in the area.
Forensic testing so far has indicated the baby was around one month old however Detective Inspector David Nixon said testing is ongoing.
"Someone must know what has happened," said Detective Nixon.
"We are appealing for anyone who may have known someone who was recently pregnant, and cannot explain the loss of their baby to come forward.
"We are also urging the mother to come forward as we hold concerns for her welfare."
